Contact UsA Classic Tour is a travel itinerary designed to showcase the most representative and well-known attractions of a destination. Unlike thematic tours—such as wine tours, adventure trips, or wildlife expeditions—classic tours offer a comprehensive overview of a country or region.
These programs typically combine several highlights in a single itinerary: major cities, famous natural landmarks, cultural sites, and scenic landscapes. The goal is to provide travelers with a complete introduction to a destination, ensuring they experience the places that have made it famous around the world.
Classic tours usually include comfortable accommodations, guided excursions to key attractions, and well-planned routes that connect the most important regions efficiently. They are perfect for travelers who want to see the “must-see” destinations while enjoying a smooth and enriching travel experience.
Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Travelers from the United States, Canada, the UK, and most European countries typically do not need a visa for short tourist stays. Always check with the official consulates before your trip.
Both countries can be visited year-round, but the ideal timing depends on the regions included in your itinerary:
Atacama Desert: Year-round, with stable conditions and clear skies
Iguazú Falls: Year-round; best water flow from December to March, while April to September offers cooler temperatures and less humidity
Salta & Northwest Argentina: April to November (dry season with sunny days and comfortable temperatures)
Buenos Aires & Santiago: Spring (Sep–Nov) and Fall (Mar–May) offer mild temperatures and fewer crowds
Mendoza: March to May (harvest season and wine events) and September to November (pleasant weather and vineyard scenery)
Carretera Austral (Chile): November to March (best road conditions, accessible routes, and milder weather for exploring this remote scenic highway)
Bariloche & Lake District: December to March for outdoor activities and lake scenery; June to August for skiing season
Península Valdés: June to December for wildlife watching, especially whales (June–October) and penguins (September–November)
Patagonia (El Calafate, El Chaltén, Ushuaia, Torres del Paine): October to April (best weather, longer daylight hours)
Choosing the right travel dates ensures you experience each destination at its best, especially when combining multiple regions across Argentina and Chile.
A combined trip to Argentina and Chile usually requires 10 to 20 days to comfortably explore key highlights such as Buenos Aires, Patagonia, Santiago, and the Atacama Desert.
However, it’s important to consider that both countries are big in size and offer an extraordinary variety of landscapes and experiences. Traveling across all major regions—from Iguazú Falls to Patagonia, including deserts, mountains, wine regions, and coastal areas—would require at least 40 to 50 days or more to do it properly.
For this reason, most travelers choose to focus on one or two regions per trip. For example:
A Patagonia itinerary (Argentina and Chile) can be explored in 10–15 days
A journey through the north and central regions (Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Salta, Santiago, Atacama) can be done in 12–20 days
By concentrating on specific areas, you’ll enjoy a more relaxed pace and a deeper experience, while still discovering the most iconic attractions of Argentina and Chile.
Most classic tours include accommodation, airport transfers, guided excursions to major attractions, and some meals (usually breakfast). Depending on the itinerary, domestic flights and entrance fees may also be included.
Since these are tailor-made journeys, the exact services included can vary according to each traveler’s preferences and travel style. Your itinerary can be fully customized to include a combination of hotels, private or shared transportation, local guides, restaurant reservations, internal flights, and exclusive experiences, among other services.
This flexibility allows you to design a trip that perfectly matches your interests, comfort level, and pace, ensuring a personalized and seamless travel experience across Argentina and Chile.
Argentina and Chile offer an incredible combination of natural wonders, vibrant cities, rich culture, and world-class gastronomy. From glaciers and deserts to wine regions and cosmopolitan capitals, few destinations provide such diversity in a single trip.
It is recommended to book at least 2 to 4 months in advance, especially if traveling during high season (Patagonian summer or holidays), to ensure availability and better rates.
However, if your itinerary includes southern Patagonia, some services are in extremely high demand and have very limited availability. In destinations such as Torres del Paine National Park, accommodations and premium services can sell out well in advance.
For this reason, we strongly recommend booking 6 to 12 months ahead when planning to visit this region, particularly for travel between November and March. Early booking ensures access toaccommodation, guided experiences, and overall trip availability.
Discover the vibrant energy of Buenos Aires, a city where European elegance meets Latin passion. Wander through historic neighborhoods like San Telmo and La Boca, enjoy world-class gastronomy, and experience the magic of tango. From iconic landmarks to lively cafés and nightlife, Argentina’s capital offers an unforgettable cultural experience.
Experience the awe-inspiring power of Iguazú Falls, one of the most spectacular natural wonders on Earth, surrounded by lush rainforest. Combine it with the Iberá Wetlands, a pristine wildlife paradise where you can spot capybaras, caimans, deer, and hundreds of bird species. A perfect destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Welcome to Mendoza, the heart of Argentina’s wine country. Surrounded by the majestic Andes, this region invites you to discover world-famous Malbec vineyards, boutique wineries, and outstanding cuisine. Pair wine tastings with outdoor adventures like cycling through vineyards, rafting, or exploring the nearby Aconcagua region.
Set among crystal-clear lakes and snow-capped peaks, Bariloche is Patagonia’s alpine paradise. Located within Nahuel Huapi National Park, it offers year-round adventure—from skiing and hiking to scenic boat trips and kayaking. Charming architecture and renowned chocolate shops add the perfect touch to this stunning destination.
A dream destination for wildlife lovers, Puerto Madryn and Península Valdés offer some of the best marine wildlife experiences in the world. Witness southern right whales, penguins, sea lions, elephant seals, and even orcas in their natural habitat. It’s one of Patagonia’s most extraordinary nature encounters.
Discover the breathtaking glaciers of Patagonia in Los Glaciares National Park. El Calafate is the gateway to the iconic Perito Moreno Glacier, where massive ice walls dramatically collapse into turquoise waters. Nearby El Chaltén, Argentina’s trekking capital, offers spectacular hikes to the legendary peaks of Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre.
Journey to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, where the Andes meet the Beagle Channel. Explore the wild landscapes of Tierra del Fuego National Park, sail among remote islands and wildlife, and experience the spirit of the “End of the World.” It’s also the perfect gateway to Antarctica expeditions.
Step into the extraordinary landscapes of the Atacama Desert, the driest desert on Earth. From the charming village of San Pedro de Atacama, explore lunar valleys, high-altitude lagoons filled with flamingos, salt flats, and impressive geysers. With some of the clearest skies on the planet, it’s also a world-class destination for stargazing.
Torres del Paine National Park is one of Patagonia’s most iconic natural wonders, famous for its dramatic granite towers, turquoise lakes, glaciers, and vast steppe landscapes. The nearby town of Puerto Natales is the closest city and main gateway to the park, offering a charming base with great lodges, restaurants, and stunning fjord views for travelers exploring this spectacular region.
Located on the historic Strait of Magellan, Punta Arenas is a gateway to the far south of Chilean Patagonia. The city blends maritime history, colorful architecture, and strong pioneer heritage. From here, travelers can sail through the spectacular Chilean fjords on Patagonian cruises and explore the Francisco Coloane Marine Park, home to humpback whales, sea lions, penguins, and impressive glaciers.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless
