Mendoza is located in western Argentina, at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, near the border with Chile. It is the country’s most important wine region and the center of Argentina’s famous Malbec production.
Mendoza is best known for its world-class wine, especially Malbec, as well as its scenic vineyards set against the backdrop of the Andes. The region is also popular for gourmet dining, outdoor adventures, and high-altitude landscapes.
Mendoza can be visited year-round, but March and April are especially popular because they coincide with the grape harvest season (Vendimia). Spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) offer mild weather and beautiful vineyard scenery.
Most travelers spend three to four days in Mendoza. This allows time to explore several wineries, enjoy local cuisine, and take day trips into the Andes Mountains.
Mendoza has several well-known wine areas, including: Luján de Cuyo – famous for traditional Malbec wineries, Maipú – one of the oldest wine regions in Argentina, Uco Valley – known for high-altitude vineyards and premium wines. Each region offers different landscapes and wine experiences.
Yes, most wineries in Mendoza require advance reservations for tastings and tours. Booking ahead ensures availability, especially during weekends and the harvest season.
In addition to winery visits, Mendoza offers many outdoor experiences, including: Horseback riding in the Andes, White-water rafting and hiking, Visits to Aconcagua Provincial Park, Relaxing in thermal hot springs, Gourmet food and wine pairings.
The Vendimia Festival is Mendoza’s annual grape harvest celebration, usually held in early March. It includes cultural events, parades, concerts, and wine-related festivities that attract visitors from around the world.
The easiest way to reach Mendoza is by flying into El Plumerillo International Airport (MDZ), which has regular flights from Buenos Aires and other cities in Argentina. The city is also connected by long-distance buses and scenic road routes through the Andes.
Travelers should bring comfortable clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat, as Mendoza has a sunny and dry climate. If you plan to visit the mountains, it’s also recommended to pack a light jacket and layers, since temperatures can vary with altitude.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless
