A fabulous company to travel with: the sequencing of the trip, the guides proposed, the suggestions for the area. We highly recommend this travel agency for Patagonia. Fernando is top+top.
Salta and Argentina’s Northwest are lands shaped by time, culture, and color. Here, every road winds through ancient valleys, terraced vineyards, adobe villages, and mountains painted in shades that seem drawn from an endless palette. From the colonial elegance of Salta’s historic center to the vast silence of the Puna, the region invites travelers to connect with Argentina’s indigenous roots and some of its most striking landscapes.
Rainbow-colored hills, salt flats that shine like mirrors, forests of giant cacti, and winding quebradas create a geography that feels almost mystical. In this corner of the country, the past is still alive in its traditions, its flavors, and the music that echoes through high-altitude villages surrounded by breathtaking nature.
With more than 15 years of experience designing tailor-made journeys, we create travel experiences shaped around your pace and interests. Whether it’s a scenic drive along iconic routes like the Quebrada de Humahuaca or the Calchaquí Valleys, encounters with local artisans and winemakers, or adventures across high-altitude deserts and multicolored canyons, each itinerary blends comfort, authenticity, and thoughtful logistics. The result is more than just a destination, it becomes a journey into the ancestral heart of Argentina.

Northwest Argentina is one of the country’s most scenic regions, located along the foothills of the Andes Mountains. The most visited destinations include Salta, Cafayate, and historic villages in the Quebrada de Humahuaca such as Purmamarca and Tilcara. Many travel itineraries also extend into Chile to explore the Atacama Desert, with a base in San Pedro de Atacama.
To explore the highlights of Northwest Argentina, travelers usually need 6 to 10 days. To extend the journey to the Atacama Desert in Chile, a total of around 14 days is recommended. This allows time to discover Salta, the Valles Calchaquíes, the Quebrada de Humahuaca, and cross the Andes into Chile for excursions around San Pedro de Atacama.
The region can be visited year-round, but the best travel season is generally from April to November, when the weather is dry and skies are especially clear. Between December and March, Northwest Argentina experiences a short rainy season, although showers are usually brief. The Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth, remains mostly dry throughout the year.
The most common route between the two countries is the Paso de Jama, a high-altitude mountain pass connecting the province of Jujuy with the Atacama Desert. This scenic route crosses the Andean plateau before arriving in San Pedro de Atacama.
Some destinations in the Andes reach over 3,500 meters (11,500 ft) above sea level, so mild altitude symptoms are possible. Places such as Salinas Grandes and the crossing through Paso de Jama are located at high elevations. To minimize symptoms, travelers should: stay well hydrated, ascend gradually, take it easy on the first day at high altitude.
Some of the region’s most iconic landscapes include: Cerro de los Siete Colores in Purmamarca, Humahuaca Gorge, Salinas Grandes (salt flats), Valles Calchaquies including Cachi, Quebrada de Las Conchas and Cafayate. These destinations combine multicolored mountains, dramatic rock formations, and charming colonial villages.
Because of the altitude and desert climate, travelers should bring: layered clothing, a warm jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, comfortable walking shoes. Temperatures can vary significantly between day and night.
Absolutely. Northwest Argentina and the Atacama Desert are among the most photogenic destinations in South America, offering multicolored mountains, vast salt flats, volcanoes, high-altitude lagoons, and some of the clearest night skies in the world.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!
