Custom Travel Experiences in Atacama

The Atacama Desert is one of the most extraordinary places on Earth. Stretching across northern Chile, this vast high-altitude desert is shaped by salt flats, towering volcanoes, steaming geysers, and landscapes painted in surreal mineral colors. Known as the driest non-polar desert in the world, Atacama offers crystal-clear skies for stargazing, dramatic scenery, and a powerful sense of silence and immensity that is hard to find anywhere else.

Here, the contrasts are unforgettable. Red rock canyons glow at sunset, geothermal fields send steam into the cold morning air, and brilliant blue lagoons sit quietly in the desert, often dotted with graceful flamingos. Every corner of Atacama feels like another world. The small villages of the region hold centuries of Andean culture and traditions, with adobe homes, ancient pathways, and desert oases that have sustained life in this extreme landscape for generations. San Pedro de Atacama, the heart of the region, blends Indigenous heritage, archaeology, astronomy, and adventure into a destination unlike any other in South America.

For more than 15 years, we’ve been helping travelers experience northern Chile in a way that feels personal and meaningful. Each journey we design is tailored to your interests—whether that means photography, stargazing under some of the clearest skies on the planet, exploring geological wonders, enjoying outdoor adventures, discovering local culture, or relaxing in beautiful desert lodges.

Our goal is to take care of every detail so you can fully experience the magic of this remarkable place. With thoughtful planning, seamless logistics, and local insight, Atacama becomes more than a destination—it becomes your gateway to one of Chile’s most mystical and awe-inspiring regions.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless

I had a great experience with Southwind. They organized a tour for us to visit Monte Leon from El Calafate. Fernando & Laura organized the logistics and were very helpful. Martin accompanied us on the tour and doubled up as driver and tour guide, which was beyond our expectations. We saw a lot of wildlife en route, as well as in the park with Martin’s help. I highly recommend Southwind for your Patagonia experience.
