Ideally, plan 10 to 14 days to visit one or two regions comfortably. Due to Chile’s long and narrow geography, traveling between destinations often requires flights, so it’s best to focus your itinerary.

Many nationalities, including travelers from the US, UK, EU, Canada, and Australia, can enter Chile visa-free for tourism stays of up to 90 days. Always check the latest entry requirements before your trip.

Chile is considered one of the safest countries in South America. Travelers should still take normal precautions, especially in busy urban areas, but overall it’s a very welcoming and secure destination.

Chile can be visited year-round, but the best time depends on the region:

  • Atacama Desert (north): year-round

  • Santiago & central Chile: spring (September–November) and fall (March–May)

  • Patagonia: October to April for the best weather

The official currency is the Chilean Peso (CLP). Credit cards are widely accepted in cities and most tourist areas, but it’s still advisable to carry some cash, especially when traveling to rural or remote regions. In popular destinations, you’ll also find exchange offices where you can easily convert US dollars or euros into local currency, making it convenient for international travelers to manage their expenses.

Chile is generally considered one of the more expensive countries in South America. However, it offers excellent infrastructure, safety, and high-quality services, making it a great value for many travelers.

English is spoken in hotels and tourist services, particularly in major destinations. However, Spanish is the official language, and knowing basic phrases can enhance your experience.
