Itinerary
To start your Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary, take a flight to El Calafate Airport, where a local driver will be waiting to take you to El Chaltén. Along the way, enjoy the Patagonian steppe landscape, with its lakes, rivers, and native fauna such as guanacos. A few kilometers before reaching the town, discover the impressive mountain peaks that surround this charming place. Once you arrive, you can spend the rest of the day exploring the downtown area.
Begin your hike to the base of Mount Fitz Roy through forests of lenga and ñire trees, crossing streams and rivers amid stunning scenery. You’ll first drive with your local guide to El Pilar Hotel, the starting point of an eight-hour trek. Along the way, admire the Piedras Blancas Hanging Glacier, diverse Patagonian flora and fauna, and the ever-closer views of the majestic Fitz Roy until reaching its base at Laguna de los Tres. The final hour is steep and demanding, but your guide will help you choose the best route. After enjoying the breathtaking views, descend from Laguna de los Tres and return to El Chaltén along the beautiful Laguna Capri trail.
On the third day of the Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary, hike the Cerro Torre trail. The path winds through beech forests, bogs, and shrublands, leading to Laguna Torre, surrounded by moraines and fed by the impressive Glacier Grande. Starting from El Chaltén, this gentle nine-hour round-trip hike follows the Fitz Roy River, revealing the canyon’s scenic waterfalls and gradually offering breathtaking views of Mount Torre. Along the way, enjoy several panoramic viewpoints, with breaks adjusted to weather conditions and your pace.
This thrilling day of the Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary combines hiking through the native forest of the Diablo River Valley in Estancia Los Huemules, climbing a via ferrata, and trekking on the Cagliero Glacier. Your local guide will pick you up at your hotel for the drive to the private reserve, located 37 km from El Chaltén on the road to Lago del Desierto. After receiving the necessary gear, you’ll follow a rocky trail along the lagoon to reach the via ferrata. As you climb, the mountain scenery becomes increasingly spectacular. At the end, you’ll reach a viewpoint overlooking the Cagliero Sur Glacier, then continue to its front, where you’ll strap on crampons for an unforgettable glacier trek.
The second stop of the Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary is El Calafate, a charming village on the shores of Lake Argentino, surrounded by the vast Patagonian steppe. Known as the gateway to the southern section of Los Glaciares National Park and the famous Perito Moreno Glacier, it also offers activities such as trekking, 4×4 excursions, horseback riding, kayaking, and sailing. After transferring from El Chaltén, enjoy the scenic landscape and explore the town at your own pace. In the afternoon, visit Cerro Frías Ranch, located 23 km away within Estancia Alice. There, you can choose between horseback riding, 4×4 tours, or zip-lining while admiring views of the Andes and spotting native wildlife like guanacos, condors, and foxes.
The Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary takes you to one of the world’s natural wonders—the Perito Moreno Glacier. Flowing from the Southern Patagonian Icefield, the world’s third-largest glacier area, this giant wall of ice rises 70 meters above Lake Argentino. The excursion begins at Puerto Bajo las Sombras, where you’ll sail across the Rico Arm to the southern wall of the glacier. After disembarking, a short trek along the moraine leads to the ice, where you’ll put on crampons and explore its magical landscape—blue lagoons, deep crevasses, and shimmering caves. A break on the glacier allows time for lunch surrounded by breathtaking views. Finally, return by boat and visit the panoramic walkways before heading back to El Calafate.
Enjoy the MarPatag Gourmet Glaciers excursion, the most exclusive full-day cruise in Los Glaciares National Park. Sail aboard the María Turquesa through the turquoise waters of Lake Argentino, navigating among stunning ice floes to visit the Upsala and Spegazzini glaciers. As part of the Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary, you’ll cruise for about two hours before stopping near the Spegazzini Glacier to admire its grandeur. Then, disembark at Las Vacas Bay for a guided one-hour walk surrounded by pristine nature. Continue through the Upsala Channel, where the first icebergs appear, and enjoy a gourmet lunch on board amid breathtaking scenery. The return route passes through the Canal de los Témpanos, offering views of the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier.
To continue our Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary let’s enjoy a unique adventure immersed in spectacular landscapes, The Darwin Adventure, a unique excursion from El Calafate that explores the Patagonian steppe by kayak. Departing from the historic Charles Furh area, at the mouth of Lake Argentino, you’ll paddle double kayaks down the Santa Cruz River to Estancia Río Bote, following part of Charles Darwin’s 19th-century route through Patagonia. After a 4×4 transfer from your hotel, certified guides provide a safety briefing, warm-up, and all necessary gear, including dry suits, gloves, and boots. The 80-minute, 15-km paddle reveals the vast beauty of this remote landscape. Upon arrival at the estancia, enjoy a delicious lunch before returning to El Calafate by 4×4.
The final destination of the Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary is Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. Nestled on the shores of the Beagle Channel, this picturesque port—known as the gateway to Antarctica, offers an exceptional landscape where mountains, glaciers, sea, and forests meet. Its natural beauty makes Ushuaia one of Argentina’s most captivating cities, with year-round activities: skiing and snow sports in winter, and trekking, sailing, and wildlife excursions in summer. Upon arrival at Ushuaia Airport, a local driver will transfer you to your hotel, allowing time to admire the city along the way. Once settled, spend the rest of the day at leisure—exploring downtown, sampling local cuisine, or simply relaxing with views of the Andes and the sea.
This day of the Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary explores Tierra del Fuego National Park in an unconventional way, combining hiking and canoeing in a stunning natural setting. Begin with a 3–4 hour trek along the coastal trail, passing archaeological sites and the ancient shell middens left by the Yámana people—sea nomads who once inhabited this region. The hike offers great opportunities to spot wildlife, especially seabirds and, occasionally, marine mammals. After reaching Lake Roca, enjoy a country-style lunch surrounded by nature. Then, continue the adventure with a canoe trip down the Lapataia River, paddling through serene waters until you reach Lapataia Bay, the scenic endpoint of National Route No. 3.
On this day of the Patagonia Trekking and Adventure itinerary, you will hike to the Martial Glacier. Starting along the former lumberjack’s path, you’ll reach Cerro del Medio and visit Margot Lagoon. From there, continue to the summit of Mount Roy, the highest point of the trek, where you’ll stop for lunch. The descent follows the backside of Mount Godoy, with views of Negro Canyon. After reaching the pass, you’ll head south through the Martial Glacier Valley to the base of the old ski area. There, enjoy panoramic views of Ushuaia city. Throughout the trek, you’ll be accompanied by a specialized guide, ensuring a safe journey and sharing insights about the stunning landscape.
Combine a visit to the historic Estancia Harberton with a zodiac cruise through the Beagle Channel to see a penguin colony. Founded in 1886 by Anglican missionary Thomas Bridges and his wife Mary Ann, this is Tierra del Fuego’s oldest estancia, preserving original wooden buildings, a quay, and native stone terraces. You can explore the “ACATUSHUN” museum, dedicated to birds and marine mammals. From the estancia, cross the Beagle Channel by zodiac to Martillo Island (Yecapasela). During the boat ride, spot seabirds like petrels, skuas, cormorants, gulls, and albatrosses. On Martillo Island, enjoy a short walk to visit the penguin colony, experiencing these remarkable birds in their natural habitat.
Say goodbye to the wonderful Patagonia. Your local driver will take you to the Ushuaia airport to catch your flight to the next destination.
