Buenos Aires, Iguazú Falls & Mendoza: Private Argentina Classic Tour

Argentina
9 Days

Overview

This 9-day private Buenos Aires, Iguazú & Mendoza itinerary brings together three of Argentina's most distinctive landscapes in a seamless journey — the cosmopolitan neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, the subtropical rainforest surrounding Iguazú Falls, and the vineyards and Andes of Mendoza's wine country. Connected by three carefully coordinated domestic flights, the route balances culture, nature, and gastronomy without feeling rushed: two days in Buenos Aires, three days exploring both sides of Iguazú Falls, and three days in Mendoza combining world-class wineries, private wine tastings, and optional adventures in the Andes. Every flight, private transfer, winery reservation, and local guide is arranged in advance for a seamless travel experience.

  • Both Sides of Iguazú Falls: Discover the Argentine trails, Devil's Throat, and the Brazilian panoramic viewpoints with dedicated private guides who schedule each visit around the quietest times of day.

  • The Catena Zapata Collection: Spend a full day exploring the wineries behind Argentina's international wine reputation—Catena Zapata, Caro, and Casa El Enemigo—with private tastings and curated visits that showcase more than a century of Mendoza winemaking.

  • Expert Local Guides & Private Transfers: Every destination is explored with knowledgeable local specialists, while private transfers and carefully coordinated domestic flights ensure a smooth journey between Argentina's most iconic regions.

  • Fully Customizable: This private Buenos Aires Iguazú Mendoza itinerary extends naturally to Patagonia, the northwest (Salta), or Iberá Wetlands for travelers building a longer Argentina circuit.

Trip Highlights

The signature moments that make this journey unforgettable.

  • Explore Buenos Aires with a private guide through San Telmo, La Boca, Palermo, Recoleta, and Puerto Madero

  • Visit both sides of Iguazú Falls — the Argentine close-up trails and the Brazilian panoramic circuit

  • Taste Catena Zapata's wines at Caro, Catena Zapata, and Casa El Enemigo — three expressions of the same family's approach to Uco Valley Malbec

  • Ride horseback through the Quebrada del Cóndor with local guides to a 2,800-meter Andean viewpoint and a traditional asado, or hike into Aconcagua Provincial Park below the highest mountain in the Americas

Itinerary

Day 1

A private transfer from Ezeiza (EZE) or Aeroparque (AEP) to your hotel in Palermo, Recoleta, or San Telmo. The rest of the day is free.

Day 2

A private city tour through San Telmo and its antiques market, La Boca and the Caminito, Recoleta and the cemetery where Eva Perón is buried, Palermo's parks and boutique streets, and Puerto Madero. Stops at Plaza de Mayo, the 9 de Julio Avenue and Obelisk, and the Colón Theater. In the evening, a tango show at a traditional Buenos Aires venue.

Day 3

A domestic flight north to Iguazú (IGR), with a private transfer to your rainforest lodge. The rest of the day is free.

Day 4

A full day inside Iguazú National Park on the Argentine side — the Lower Circuit for close-up falls views, the Upper Circuit for the elevated perspective, and the ecological train to the Garganta del Diablo (Devil's Throat), where the river drops 80 meters into permanent spray.

Day 5

The border crossing to Brazil is managed by your driver. The Brazilian side's single elevated walkway delivers the wide-angle counterpart to the Argentine experience — the full 275-waterfall system in one view.

Day 6

A domestic flight from Iguazú (IGR) to Mendoza (MDZ). The rest of the afternoon is free to explore the city or rest at your hotel.

Day 7

A full day inside the Catena Zapata family's portfolio — three wineries sharing a common philosophy of altitude and terroir expression in the Uco Valley. The Catena Zapata family has been in Argentine viticulture for more than a century and four generations; this day covers their three distinct labels, with guided tastings paired against the context of each property's history and winemaking approach.

Day 8

Two options for the final active day:

.

Quebrada del Cóndor horseback ride: Through Potrerillos and up to a 2,800-meter viewpoint over the Potrer

.

Aconcagua Provincial Park day hike: A drive to the park entrance and a guided walk into the Horcones Valley — the landscape shifts from scrub steppe to high-altitude rock and ice formations, with Aconcagua's 6,961-meter south face increasingly visible as the trail progresses.

Day 9

A private transfer to Mendoza Airport (MDZ) for your domestic flight to Buenos Aires and onward international connections.

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless.

I had a great experience with Southwind. They organized a tour for us to visit Monte Leon from El Calafate. Fernando & Laura organized the logistics and were very helpful. Martin accompanied us on the tour and doubled up as driver and tour guide, which was beyond our expectations. We saw a lot of wildlife en route, as well as in the park with Martin’s help. I highly recommend Southwind for your Patagonia experience.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!

How to Customize This Itinerary

This itinerary is a foundation, not a fixed template — we shape it around what draws you to Argentina in the first place.

  • Add Iberá Wetlands between Iguazú and Mendoza for capybara and caiman boat safaris and the rewilding project context.

  • Add extra days in Mendoza for additional bodega visits, white-water rafting on the Mendoza River, or a hot air balloon flight over the Uco Valley vineyards.

  • Include Salta and the Northwest for colonial architecture, Cafayate Torrontés, and the Quebrada de Humahuaca.

  • Extend to Patagonia for Perito Moreno Glacier, El Chaltén trekking, and Ushuaia.

Every adjustment is shaped around what the trip means to you, then re-engineered with the same private logistics as the original route.
