Mendoza: Uco Valley & Luján de Cuyo Private Wine Tour

Mendoza: Uco Valley & Luján de Cuyo Private Wine Tour

5 Days

Overview

Mendoza's wine regions each tell a different story — and this 5-day private Mendoza wine tour covers both of the main ones in depth. The first full day focuses on Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza's historic Malbec heartland: three boutique producers (Caelum, Rucamalén, and Renacer) approached through a private guide who knows each winemaker personally, including a hands-on blending session at Renacer where you create and bottle your own wine. The second wine day moves to the Uco Valley at higher altitude — Salentein's European-designed cathedral winery, Domaine Bousquet's organic estate, and Andeluna Cellars with a gourmet lunch at the foot of the Tupungato Volcano — before a final active day in the Aconcagua Provincial Park for the walk to Horcones Lagoon and the south face of the Americas' highest peak. Every bodega appointment, private transfer, and hotel selection is coordinated in advance.

  • Winemaker's Experience at Renacer — Create Your Own Blend: The blending session at Renacer is the most hands-on bodega experience in the Mendoza catalog — you work directly with the winemaker to design a personal blend from different varietals, then bottle and label it to take home. It's the most requested single experience for wine-focused travelers visiting Luján de Cuyo.

  • Luján de Cuyo vs. Uco Valley — One Day Each: Luján delivers classic Malbec at established estates with decades of track record; the Uco Valley delivers high-altitude complexity, organic farming, and producers who are still building their international reputation. Splitting them across two days rather than mixing both into one gives each zone the time it deserves.

  • Aconcagua Provincial Park — Active Day Between Wine Days: The park walk to Horcones Lagoon breaks the rhythm of two consecutive wine days with open mountain air, glacial water, and the closest accessible viewpoint to the south face of Aconcagua (6,962m) — no technical mountaineering required.

  • Fully Customizable: This private Mendoza wine tour extends naturally into Buenos Aires, Patagonia, or Iguazú Falls for travelers building a broader private Argentina circuit.

Itinerary

Day 1

A private transfer from Mendoza Airport (MDZ) to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to explore the city's tree-lined streets, the Central Market, and Mendoza's café culture.

Day 2

A full day in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza's Malbec heartland. Visits to Caelum (boutique wines and homemade pistachios), Rucamalén (a creative tasting menu pairing food with regional expressions), and Renacer for the hands-on Winemaker's Experience — working directly with the estate's winemaker to taste individual varietals, design a personal blend, and bottle and label your own wine to take home. Gourmet three-course lunch at Renacer.

Day 3

A private drive to Aconcagua Provincial Park — at 6,962 meters, Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside the Himalayan system. The walk enters the Quebrada de Horcones, following the trail past Laguna Horcones with the full south face gradually filling the horizon. No technical mountaineering required; this is a park trail walk with an extraordinary payoff in scale.

Day 4

A high-altitude wine day in the Uco Valley, where vineyards grow between 1,000 and 1,500 meters with permanent Andean snowpack visible from the vines. Visits to Salentein (European-designed cathedral winery with old-vine varietals), Domaine Bousquet (Argentina's largest certified organic wine producer), and Andeluna Cellars (at the foot of Volcán Tupungato) for a gourmet lunch paired with award-winning Uco Valley wines.

Day 5

A private transfer to Mendoza Airport (MDZ) for your domestic flight to Buenos Aires and onward international connections.

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless.

I had a great experience with Southwind. They organized a tour for us to visit Monte Leon from El Calafate. Fernando & Laura organized the logistics and were very helpful. Martin accompanied us on the tour and doubled up as driver and tour guide, which was beyond our expectations. We saw a lot of wildlife en route, as well as in the park with Martin’s help. I highly recommend Southwind for your Patagonia experience.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!

How to Customize This Itinerary

This itinerary is a foundation, not a fixed template — we shape it around what draws you to Mendoza in the first place.

  • Add extra days in Mendoza with a stay at a vineyard lodge like Casa de Uco in the Uco Valley.

  • Add a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the vineyards and Andes.

  • Combine with Buenos Aires for tango, world-class restaurants, and the city's historic neighborhoods.

  • Add Iguazú Falls for the Atlantic rainforest and both sides of the 275-waterfall system.

Every adjustment is shaped around what the trip means to you, then re-engineered with the same private logistics as the original route.
