Southwind Experience is based in El Calafate, Patagonia — not in Buenos Aires, not overseas. That means the team managing your itinerary operates in the same time zone as your destination, knows current conditions on both sides of the Argentina-Chile border firsthand, and can respond in real time if anything needs adjusting while you're traveling.

Most of our clients are international travelers from the US, UK, Australia, and Europe planning their first or second trip to Argentina and Chile — typically in pairs or small private groups, traveling for 10 to 21 days. They've done their research, know which regions interest them, and want an expert to connect the logistics rather than starting from scratch on their own.

It starts with a conversation about your dates, regions of interest, pace, and travel style. From there we design a private route with specific accommodation options, activity sequencing, and cross-border logistics — all before any commitment. Most itineraries go through two or three rounds of adjustment before they're confirmed. There are no planning fees and no obligation until you decide to proceed.

The main difference is in the coordination: domestic flights, border crossings, boutique lodge availability, private guides, and seasonal timing across multiple regions involve dozens of moving parts that are straightforward to manage separately but genuinely complex to align into one coherent trip. A misjudged flight connection or a lodge that fills up can change the character of an entire week. We handle that chain from a single point of contact so you don't manage it piece by piece from the road.

Our base is in Patagonia, but our network covers the full catalog: Buenos Aires, Mendoza wine country, Salta and Northwest Argentina, Iguazú Falls, the Iberá Wetlands, the Atacama Desert, the Carretera Austral, Torres del Paine, and Antarctica. Each region has dedicated local guides and partners who know it specifically — coordinated from El Calafate as the central point of the operation.

For itineraries that include Patagonia during peak season (November through February), starting the conversation 4 to 6 months ahead is recommended — primarily to secure boutique lodge availability in Torres del Paine and El Chaltén, which fills well before the season opens. For other regions or shoulder season travel, there's more flexibility, though the best properties and guides fill faster than most travelers expect.
