Torres del Paine, El Calafate & El Chaltén: Private Patagonia Honeymoon

Torres del Paine, El Calafate & El Chaltén: Private Patagonia Honeymoon

Chile
10 Days
From USD 8,077

Overview

This 10-day private Patagonia honeymoon itinerary covers three of the region's most iconic destinations in a single circuit — the W Trek in Torres del Paine using your lodge as a fixed hotel base, Perito Moreno Glacier and the Marpatag navigation in El Calafate, and two days of trekking beneath Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre in El Chaltén. Every hiking day ends with a return to a private hotel, luggage never moves between overnight points, and a private guide accompanies every trail day.

  • The Comfort of a Hotel Base: each day's hike departs and returns to the same lodge on Lake Pehoé, so the evenings are always the same private suite overlooking the massif.

  • A private guide for every hiking day: setting departure time against the morning wind forecast and adjusting pace and route to conditions on the trail

  • Three iconic trails in Torres del Paine & El Chalten: Base of the Towers, French Valley, and Grey Glacier — the full W circuit done as day hikes from a single hotel. Laguna de Los Tres & Cerro Torre in El Chalten.

  • El Calafate with two perspectives on the ice: the Marpatag full-day navigation to Upsala and Spegazzini glaciers by boat, then Perito Moreno's elevated walkways on the same day

  • Fully customizable — extend in El Chaltén with Lago del Desierto or Reserva Los Huemules, or continue to Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel

Trip Highlights

The signature moments that make this journey unforgettable.

  • Hike to the Base of the Paine Towers, where three granite spires reflect in a turquoise glacial lagoon 880m above the starting point

  • Explore the French Valley by catamaran across Lake Pehoé into a mountain amphitheater of hanging glaciers and vertical rock walls

  • Trek to Grey Glacier, with optional kayaking or zodiac navigation alongside the ice face

  • Stay at your lodge with direct views over Lake Pehoé and the Torres massif from every room

  • Navigate Lago Argentino aboard the Marpatag to Upsala and Spegazzini glaciers

  • Walk Perito Moreno's elevated walkways alongside the 70-meter ice face and calving events

  • Visit the Mirador de los Cóndores y las Águilas and Chorrillo del Salto on arrival in El Chaltén

  • Hike to Laguna de los Tres beneath Cerro Fitz Roy (3,405m), departing from the Río Eléctrico trailhead

  • Trek to Laguna Torre at the base of Cerro Torre's spire above the icebergs of Glaciar Grande

Itinerary

Day 1

A private transfer from El Calafate (5-6 hours) or Punta Arenas (2.5–3 hours) into the park, arriving at Explora Patagonia on the shore of Lake Pehoé. The rest of the afternoon is free to walk the lodge's immediate trails, which offer the first unobstructed views of the Torres from the property. In the evening, dinner with the day's route briefing from your guide.

Day 2

18 km round trip | 880m elevation gain | 6–8 hours | Challenging

The park's signature hike, and the most demanding day of the circuit. The trail climbs through native lenga forest and along the Ascencio River before a steep final ascent to the glacial lagoon at the base of the three granite spires. A private gourmet picnic at the summit, then the descent back to the lodge for the evening.

Day 3

16–21 km round trip | 500m elevation gain | 6–7 hours | Moderate–Challenging

A catamaran crossing of Lake Pehoé reaches the western arm of the park, where the French Valley trail enters a glacial amphitheater flanked by hanging glaciers and vertical rock walls. The valley is named after one of the first European climbers to explore it in the early 20th century; on clear days, the view from the upper mirador includes peaks on both sides of the valley simultaneously.

Day 4

11–17 km round trip | 300m elevation gain | 3.5–4.5 hours | Moderate

A transfer to Puerto Pudeto for the first catamaran crossing to Paine Grande, with panoramic views of the Cuernos del Paine from the water. From Paine Grande, the trail heads north along the eastern shore of Lago Grey — wind-anchored icebergs sit grounded on the volcanic sand beach throughout the walk, growing progressively larger as the glacier face comes into range. Arriving at Refugio Grey, a second catamaran crosses directly to the lodge on the opposite shore, where the full face of Grey Glacier comes into view for the first time. Calving events are common; the ice wall reaches 30 meters above the surface in several sections.

Day 5

A private transfer from your lodge back across the Argentine–Chilean border to El Calafate, with stops along the Patagonian steppe for guanacos, condors, and lesser rheas. The rest of the day is free in town — the lakeshore, a first dinner in Argentina, and an early night before the big glacier day.

Day 6

A full-day cruise aboard the Marpatag through Lago Argentino's floating icebergs to Upsala Glacier — one of the largest in South America — and Spegazzini Glacier, whose ice face rises over 130 meters, reachable only by boat. Gourmet lunch on board as the vessel navigates between the two glaciers. After returning to port in the afternoon, a transfer directly to Perito Moreno Glacier for the elevated walkways — 4.7 kilometers of platforms alongside the 70-meter ice face, with calving events audible throughout. Two completely different physical relationships with the same ice field in one day.

Day 7

A private transfer across the Patagonian steppe to El Chaltén, with the Fitz Roy massif rising on the horizon as the route approaches the village. A gentle afternoon introduction to the trail network: the Mirador de los Cóndores y las Águilas, a short ascent above the village with panoramic views of the De las Vueltas River valley and the surrounding mountains, followed by a walk to Chorrillo del Salto — a waterfall in native lenga forest on the edge of town. An evening guide briefing covers weather conditions and departure timing for the two trekking days ahead.

Day 8

22 km round trip | 960m elevation gain | 8–9 hours | Challenging

A private transfer from El Chaltén to the Río Eléctrico trailhead, 18 km north of the village, cuts the standard approach in half and adds roughly 90 minutes of actual trail time to the day. From the trailhead, a full day ascending through lenga and ñire forest past the Piedras Blancas hanging glacier to the glacial lagoon at 3,054 meters below Fitz Roy's north face.

Day 9

~18 km round trip | ~450m elevation gain | ~6 hours | Moderate

A full-day hike west through the Fitz Roy River canyon to Laguna Torre, where Cerro Torre's 3,128-meter granite spire and the floating icebergs of Glaciar Grande fill the view. Return to El Chaltén in the afternoon for the final evening.

Day 10

A private transfer from El Chaltén across the Patagonian steppe to El Calafate Airport (FTE) for your domestic flight to Buenos Aires and onward international connections.

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless.

I had a great experience with Southwind. They organized a tour for us to visit Monte Leon from El Calafate. Fernando & Laura organized the logistics and were very helpful. Martin accompanied us on the tour and doubled up as driver and tour guide, which was beyond our expectations. We saw a lot of wildlife en route, as well as in the park with Martin’s help. I highly recommend Southwind for your Patagonia experience.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!

How to Customize This Itinerary

This itinerary is a foundation, not a fixed template — we shape it around what draws you to Patagonia in the first place.

  • Extend in El Chaltén with a visit to Lago del Desierto for the Viedma Glacier navigation, or a day inside Reserva Los Huemules for the Laguna del Diablo and Laguna Azul trails in a private reserve north of the village.

  • Continue to Ushuaia for the Beagle Channel navigation, Tierra del Fuego National Park trekking, and Glaciar Vinciguerra.

  • Add Buenos Aires for tango, world-class restaurants, and the city's historic neighborhoods.

  • Extend your time in Torres del Paine with additional guided hikes, horseback rides, or kayaking inside the park.

Every adjustment is shaped around what the trip means to you, then re-engineered with the same private logistics as the original route.
