Buenos Aires, Iguazú, El Calafate & Ushuaia: Classic Argentina Private Tour

Buenos Aires, Iguazú, El Calafate & Ushuaia: Classic Argentina Private Tour

Argentina
11 Days

Overview

This 11-day private Argentina itinerary moves through three completely different versions of the country — the vibrant neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, the subtropical rainforest surrounding Iguazú Falls, and the glaciers and mountains of Southern Patagonia, ending in Ushuaia at the southern tip of South America. Four carefully coordinated domestic flights connect each region efficiently, allowing more time to explore and less time in transit. Designed for first-time visitors, the itinerary balances Argentina's cultural highlights and iconic natural landscapes, with two full days in every major destination instead of the rushed pace typical of many multi-region tours.

  • Buenos Aires — Two Days with a Private Guide: Explore San Telmo, La Boca, Recoleta, and Palermo at a relaxed pace, finishing with an evening of tango and Argentine cuisine.

  • Iguazú Falls — Both Sides Covered: Visit the Argentine trails and Devil's Throat, then cross into Brazil for panoramic views, with a private local guide timing each visit around the quietest hours of the day.

  • Southern Patagonia — Glaciers & the End of the World: Spend two days in El Calafate exploring the Perito Moreno Glacier and navigating to the remote glaciers of Upsala and Spegazzini, before continuing to Ushuaia for a Beagle Channel navigation and Tierra del Fuego National Park at the southern tip of South America.

  • Expert Local Guides & Private Transfers: Dedicated local guides lead every experience, while private transfers and carefully coordinated domestic flights ensure seamless travel between Argentina's most iconic destinations.

  • 100% Fully Customizable: Every itinerary is tailor-made to your travel style, preferred pace, and interests, with the flexibility to add destinations such as Mendoza, Salta, Iberá, or Torres del Paine to create your ideal Argentina journey.

Itinerary

Day 1

Your private driver meets you at the airport for the transfer to your hotel in Palermo or Recoleta — two of the city's leafier, more residential districts, a deliberate choice over the busier downtown core for a first night after a long flight. In the afternoon, a relaxed walk through the neighborhood with your local host, covering a handful of restaurants, cafés, and a park or plaza worth knowing about for the rest of your stay.

Day 2

A private city tour with your expert local guide through San Telmo, the city's oldest barrio and a center for antiques and tango; La Boca, known for the colorful Caminito and its football history; Palermo's parks and design district; and Recoleta, home to the cemetery where Eva Perón is buried. In the evening, a tango dinner show with live music and dance.

Day 3

A roughly two-hour domestic flight from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazú, with a private transfer to your rainforest lodge. The shift in climate is immediate — from the temperate capital to subtropical humidity — and the rest of the day is free, with the jungle canopy visible from the terrace at sunset.

Day 4

Experience the roar of Iguazú Falls on a fully custom private tour. Your expert guide adjusts the timing to explore the upper and lower circuits when the larger cruise-ship crowds have cleared. Stand directly over the Devil’s Throat, maximizing your connection to nature while enjoying the safety and pace of a dedicated local expert.

Day 5

Cross the border into Brazil to visit the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls, famous for its breathtaking panoramic views. The walking circuit offers incredible photo opportunities and a wider perspective of the immense waterfall system. During the excursion, you will enjoy unforgettable landscapes where rainbows, tropical vegetation, and dramatic viewpoints combine to create one of the most impressive natural spectacles in the world.

Day 6

Begin your journey to the dramatic landscapes of the south. Our team manages the complex flight connections from the sub-tropics to El Calafate. Settle into your Patagonian lodge, where comfort and premium wines await your arrival.

Day 7

Today you will visit the Perito Moreno Glacier. This massive river of ice descends from the Southern Patagonian Icefield, one of the largest in the world, right into Lake Argentino. You’ll walk along the balconies and sail by catamaran to feel its power up close, as 70-meter walls of ice crack and thunder before your eyes. Your private guide will share stories and let you explore at your own pace, stopping wherever the landscape calls you. Back in El Calafate, after a day filled with awe and blue light, you’ll return to your hotel to enjoy a cozy Patagonian dinner.

Day 8

After breakfast, you will embark on the unforgettable Todo Glaciares navigation through the waters of Lake Argentino inside Los Glaciares National Park. During the cruise, you will admire impressive glaciers, towering ice walls, and dramatic Patagonian landscapes surrounded by snow-capped peaks. This excursion gives you a unique opportunity to witness the grandeur of Southern Patagonia and experience the region’s untouched natural beauty from a privileged perspective.

Day 9

Take your flight to Ushuaia, known as the southernmost city in the world. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a scenic navigation through the legendary Beagle Channel, surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, small islands, and abundant marine wildlife. During the excursion, you may spot sea lions, seabirds, and iconic lighthouses while discovering the fascinating history and natural beauty of Tierra del Fuego.

Day 10

After breakfast, visit the spectacular Tierra del Fuego National Park, where forests, lakes, and coastal scenery create one of the most unique protected areas in Argentina. The excursion also includes a ride aboard the historic End of the World Train, retracing the route once used by former prisoners of Ushuaia. This experience combines history, culture, and extraordinary natural landscapes at the southern tip of the American continent.

Day 11

Take your return flight to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, you may connect with your international departure flight or continue with additional travel arrangements. Your journey concludes with unforgettable memories of Argentina’s vibrant culture, spectacular waterfalls, majestic glaciers, and the remote beauty of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego.

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless.

I had a great experience with Southwind. They organized a tour for us to visit Monte Leon from El Calafate. Fernando & Laura organized the logistics and were very helpful. Martin accompanied us on the tour and doubled up as driver and tour guide, which was beyond our expectations. We saw a lot of wildlife en route, as well as in the park with Martin’s help. I highly recommend Southwind for your Patagonia experience.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!

How to Customize This Itinerary

This itinerary is a foundation, not a fixed template — we shape it around what draws you to Argentina in the first place.

  • Add nights in Buenos Aires for more gastronomy, art galleries, and neighborhood exploring.

  • Build in El Chaltén from El Calafate for Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre trekking.

  • Extend in Puerto Iguazú with jungle activities, birdwatching, or a visit to a local indigenous community.

  • Add days in Ushuaia for hiking trails, wildlife excursions, or a 4x4 expedition.

  • Continue to Bariloche's Lake District for boutique mountain lodges and scenic lake navigation.

  • Upgrade specific nights to luxury lodges or add a private Beagle Channel navigation with gourmet dining.

Every adjustment is shaped around what the trip means to you, then re-engineered with the same private logistics as the original route.
