Buenos Aires: City, Tango, Tigre Delta & San Antonio de Areco — Private Tour

Argentina
5 Days

Overview

Buenos Aires rewards travelers who have enough time to move through more than one version of the city — and 5 days is the right window to do that. This 5-day private Buenos Aires tour covers the city's main neighborhoods with a dedicated local guide (San Telmo, La Boca, Recoleta, Palermo, Puerto Madero), a full day dedicated entirely to tango from private lesson to evening milonga, a boat navigation through the Tigre Delta past wooden houses on stilts and the colonial architecture of San Isidro, and a day trip to San Antonio de Areco — Argentina's most authentic gaucho town, 120 km from the capital — for horseback riding, traditional asado, and a folklore performance at a local estancia. Every day has its own character and its own rhythm, connected by private transfers and a single guide who knows the city and its surroundings in depth.

  • Full Tango Day — Lesson, Afternoon Free, Evening Milonga: The day starts with a private lesson with a professional instructor (the embrace, the walk, the first steps), leaves the afternoon free for independent exploration of the city, and closes with dinner and a live show at a traditional milonga — a structure that gives tango the time it deserves rather than compressing it into a single evening.

  • Tigre Delta — Private Navigation Beyond the Tourist Ports: The boat excursion moves through the quieter waterways of the Delta rather than the main tourist channels, passing San Isidro's colonial residential architecture and the presidential residence at Quinta de Olivos on the return — a different Buenos Aires to the one visible from the city streets.

  • San Antonio de Areco — The Authentic Gaucho Day Trip: One hour and a half from Buenos Aires by private vehicle, Areco is Argentina's most preserved gaucho town — cobblestone streets, silversmith workshops, and estancias where the traditions of the pampas are still actively practiced rather than staged for tourists.

  • Private Local Guide Throughout: A dedicated local guide personalizes each day to your interests, sharing the city's history, architecture, gastronomy, and everyday culture while moving at a relaxed pace through its most distinctive neighborhoods.

  • Fully Customizable: This private Buenos Aires tour extends naturally to Iguazú Falls, Mendoza wine country, Patagonia, or Salta as the opening chapter of a broader Argentina itinerary.

Itinerary

Day 1

A private transfer from Ezeiza (EZE) or Aeroparque (AEP) to your hotel in Palermo — a leafy residential neighborhood with restaurants of every kind, chic bars, boutiques, parks, a rose garden, a planetarium, and the Evita Museum. An afternoon private walk covers the city's most iconic neighborhoods: Recoleta, San Telmo, La Boca, Puerto Madero, and the historic Plaza de Mayo.

Day 2

A morning private lesson with a professional instructor — the embrace, the walk, the rhythm, and the fundamental steps that define the dance. The afternoon is free for independent city exploration. In the evening, your guide takes you to a traditional café or milonga for dinner and a live tango show performed by professional dancers and musicians.

Day 3

A boat through the quieter waterways of the Tigre Delta, the vast network of river islands north of Buenos Aires where residents live surrounded by lush vegetation. Passing San Isidro's colonial residential architecture on the return, with a stop at the port town of Tigre itself. The rest of the afternoon is free in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires's converted waterfront district.

Day 4

A private drive 120 km northwest through the Pampas to San Antonio de Areco — Argentina's most preserved gaucho town, known for silversmith workshops and the annual Día de la Tradición festival in November. At a local estancia: horseback riding or carriage rides, followed by a traditional lamb or beef asado with local wines and a demonstration of gaucho horsemanship and lasso skills.

Day 5

A last morning in Buenos Aires — a final café in Palermo or Recoleta — then a private transfer to the airport for your flight home or onward connection.

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless.

I had a great experience with Southwind. They organized a tour for us to visit Monte Leon from El Calafate. Fernando & Laura organized the logistics and were very helpful. Martin accompanied us on the tour and doubled up as driver and tour guide, which was beyond our expectations. We saw a lot of wildlife en route, as well as in the park with Martin’s help. I highly recommend Southwind for your Patagonia experience.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!

How to Customize This Itinerary

This itinerary is a foundation, not a fixed template — we shape it around what draws you to Buenos Aires in the first place.

  • Add extra nights in San Antonio de Areco for a full two-night estancia stay with more rural immersion.

  • Add Iguazú Falls for the Atlantic rainforest and both sides of the 275-waterfall system.

  • Extend to Salta and the Northwest for colonial architecture, high-altitude wine valleys, and the Quebrada de Humahuaca.

  • Continue to Patagonia for Perito Moreno Glacier, El Chaltén trekking, and Ushuaia.

Every adjustment is shaped around what the trip means to you, then re-engineered with the same private logistics as the original route.
