Itinerary

Day 1

A private driver meets you at the gate of the world's southernmost airport for a direct transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon, a guided tour through Ushuaia's main viewpoints, harbor area, and historic streets, including the Museo del Presidio — a former prison turned museum that explains the city's origins and its role in early Antarctic expeditions. The evening is free for the waterfront or a seafood dinner in town.

Day 2

A drive along the coastal road to Estancia Harberton, the oldest ranch in Tierra del Fuego, founded in 1886 and still run by the same family's descendants. From there, a short boat crossing to nearby islands for close views of a Magellanic penguin colony, with sea lions and cormorants commonly visible along the way.

Day 3

A moderate trek through lenga beech forest inside Tierra del Fuego National Park, with a naturalist guide covering native flora and fauna along the way. In the afternoon, a canoe excursion along calm coastal channels — a water-level perspective on terrain most visitors only see from a trail.

Day 4

~14 km round trip | ~900m elevation gain | 6–7 hours | Challenging

A trail that climbs from the edge of the city through dense subantarctic lenga forest and peat bogs to Laguna de los Témpanos — a glacial lake fed by ice from Vinciguerra — and continues to the Glaciar Vinciguerra viewpoint. The terrain above the tree line shifts to exposed rock and moraine, with panoramic views over Ushuaia, the Beagle Channel, and the Chilean mountains on the far shore. The most demanding trail above Ushuaia and the least included in standard itineraries, despite the quality of the terrain.

Day 5

9 km round trip  |  ~200m elevation gain  |  4-5 hours  |  Moderate (in practice closer to easy)

A morning hike to Laguna Esmeralda, crossing peat bogs and forest before reaching a turquoise lagoon fed by glacial meltwater. In the afternoon, a private navigation of the Beagle Channel, the route Darwin charted in the 1830s, passing the Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse — often called the “Lighthouse at the End of the World” — and regular sightings of sea lions and seabirds.

Day 6

A full day for travelers who want to go further than the road network allows, with two real options.

Helicopter flight over Peninsula Mitre, one of the most remote and least-accessed stretches of coastline in Tierra del Fuego, with views over rugged shoreline and dense forest rarely seen at ground level. In the afternoon, a 4x4 expedition through mountain passes into the backcountry lakes region — terrain that stays largely out of reach for travelers without private transport.

Day 7

Private transfer to Ushuaia Airport for your flight north and onward international connections, handled door to door so the last morning stays unhurried.

To start this journey, travelers will need to fly into Ushuaia Airport Aeropuerto Internacional Malvinas Argentinas, (USH). This airport receives flights from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP), as well as international connections via Ezeiza International Airport (EZE).

  • Arrival Flight: Traveler flies from origin city to Buenos Aires Ezeiza (EZE) or Aeroparque (AEP), then connects with a domestic flight to Ushuaia (USH)

  • Departure Flight: At the end of the itinerary, travelers will take a domestic flight from Ushuaia Airport (USH) back to Buenos Aires (EZE/AEP) for onward international connections.
