Kaweskar Route Cruise Skorpios

Kaweskar Route Cruise Skorpios

Patagonia
5 Days

Overview

The Skorpios III Kaweskar Route departs from Puerto Natales — not from Puerto Montt like the Chonos Route — navigating south and west into the most remote section of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, where up to 15 glaciers are accessible in a single 5-day expedition: Zodiac landings at Amalia Glacier's active calving face, forest and moraine hikes to Bernal Glacier, close-up navigation at El Brujo's dark-rock ice walls, and multiple hanging glaciers in Calvo Fjord descending directly into the sea. This cruise is operated by Skorpios with fixed departure schedules and onboard accommodation. What Southwind coordinates is the land portion surrounding it: private transfers from Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales airport, pre-cruise nights if your connection requires early arrival, and extensions to Torres del Paine, El Calafate, or El Chaltén after disembarkation — connecting the sea voyage to Patagonia's land highlights through a single coordinated itinerary.

  • Gateway Logistics from Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales: Two arrival options — fly into Punta Arenas (PUQ) with a private 3-hour transfer to Puerto Natales, or direct flight to Puerto Natales (PNT) — both coordinated around the 09:00 embarkation window.

  • Torres del Paine Extension: Puerto Natales is the gateway to Torres del Paine — a private Torres del Paine tour of 3 to 5 days adds naturally before or after the cruise, with lodge availability coordinated around the exact disembarkation date.

  • El Calafate & El Chaltén Connection: For travelers continuing into Argentina, the overland crossing from Puerto Natales to El Calafate via the border connects the Kaweskar expedition to the Perito Moreno Glacier and Fitz Roy trails — all managed as a single cross-border itinerary.

  • Fully Customizable: This Skorpios Kaweskar Route itinerary integrates naturally into a broader private southern Patagonia circuit combining the cruise, Torres del Paine, and Argentine Patagonia.

Itinerary

Day 1

Your Patagonia glacier cruise begins in Puerto Natales with embarkation at 09:00 hrs and departure at 12:00 hrs. After lunch at 14:00 hrs, the ship sails through Almirante Montt Gulf. At 16:30 hrs, disembark at Guardramiro Fjord to observe southern elephant seals in their natural habitat. By 18:00 hrs, the journey continues deeper into remote Patagonian channels.

.

About the location:
Guardramiro Fjord is a secluded inlet known for its rich marine wildlife, especially southern elephant seals resting along its shores. The surrounding channels are part of a vast network of fjords shaped by ancient glacial activity, offering a first glimpse into the untouched wilderness of Chilean Patagonia.

Day 2

At 06:00 hrs, navigation continues north through Pitt Channel. By 08:45 hrs, the ship enters Guillard Fjord for a guided landing and glacier exploration. After lunch at 13:00 hrs, sail toward Amalia Glacier, arriving around 16:00 hrs for a close-up excursion. Dinner is served onboard at 20:30 hrs.

.

About the glaciers and fjords:
Guillard Fjord is a remote and rarely visited area within the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, featuring dramatic ice formations and pristine landscapes. Amalia Glacier is one of the highlights of the route, known for its massive ice walls and active calving, where chunks of ice break off into the water, creating a dynamic and unforgettable spectacle.

Day 3

Arrive at El Brujo Glacier at 08:00 hrs, with a possible landing at 09:15 hrs depending on conditions. At 11:30 hrs, navigation continues toward Calvo Fjord. After lunch at 13:00 hrs, an expedition at 16:00 hrs explores several glaciers by boat. At 20:00 hrs, the ship sails toward the Fjord of the Mountains.

.

About the glaciers and fjords:
El Brujo Glacier stands out for its dark rock contrasts and intense blue ice, offering a more rugged and dramatic landscape. Calvo Fjord is a hidden gem featuring multiple hanging glaciers, including Fernando and Alipio, where ice descends from steep mountains directly into the sea, surrounded by floating icebergs.

Day 4

At 08:00 hrs, explore the Fjord of the Mountains. At 09:00 hrs, visit Alsina Glacier by boat, followed by navigation to Bernal Glacier. At 11:00 hrs, enjoy a guided hike through forest, lagoons, and moraines. Return onboard at 12:45 hrs, lunch at 13:30 hrs, and continue sailing past Herman and Zamudio glaciers. Farewell dinner is served at 20:30 hrs.

.

About the glaciers and fjords:
The Fjord of the Mountains is renowned for its concentration of glaciers descending from the Southern Ice Field. Alsina Glacier features a striking combination of ice, vegetation, and waterfalls. Bernal Glacier offers a unique experience as visitors can walk close to its front. Herman and Zamudio glaciers complete the day with panoramic views of untouched ice landscapes.

Day 5

Arrival in Puerto Natales takes place between 02:00 and 07:00 hrs. After breakfast, disembarkation is scheduled between 08:00 and 09:30 hrs, marking the end of your Patagonia fjords and glaciers cruise.

.

About the journey:
This expedition through the Chilean fjords showcases one of the most remote regions on Earth, where glaciers, mountains, and wildlife coexist in a pristine natural environment shaped over thousands of years.

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless.

I had a great experience with Southwind. They organized a tour for us to visit Monte Leon from El Calafate. Fernando & Laura organized the logistics and were very helpful. Martin accompanied us on the tour and doubled up as driver and tour guide, which was beyond our expectations. We saw a lot of wildlife en route, as well as in the park with Martin’s help. I highly recommend Southwind for your Patagonia experience.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!
