Buenos Aires & Mendoza: Private Wine Country Honeymoon

Buenos Aires & Mendoza: Private Wine Country Honeymoon

Argentina
8 Days

Overview

This 8-day private Argentina honeymoon itinerary combines three distinct sides of the country in one seamless journey — the architecture, tango, and gastronomy of Buenos Aires, two nights at a historic estancia in San Antonio de Areco for an authentic gaucho experience, and Mendoza's vineyards and Andes for world-class wineries, outdoor adventures, and boutique wine-country hospitality. Connected by a carefully coordinated domestic flight, the itinerary includes private transfers, exclusive experiences, and thoughtfully selected accommodations, allowing you to enjoy each destination at a relaxed pace.

  • Estancia El Ombú — Two Nights on the Pampas: San Antonio de Areco is Argentina's most authentic gaucho town, 120 km from Buenos Aires. El Ombú is one of its most historic estancias — horseback riding, traditional asado with local wines, and an evening of gaucho horsemanship, all within an hour and a half of the capital city.

  • Susana Balbo Winemaker's House — Wine Country Intimacy: Built within the winemaker's own estate in Luján de Cuyo, this boutique property offers a different character from the larger Uco Valley lodges — more intimate, with direct access to the in-house vineyard and the personal touch of a property that isn't part of a chain.

  • Andes Adventure Day: Personalize your time in Mendoza with horseback riding through the Andean foothills, a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the vineyards, or a guided excursion into the surrounding mountains.

  • Expert Local Guides & Private Transfers: Dedicated local guides and private drivers ensure a seamless experience throughout the journey, from Buenos Aires and the Pampas to Mendoza's wine country.

  • Fully Customizable: This private Buenos Aires and Mendoza honeymoon extends naturally to Patagonia, Iguazú Falls, or the Atacama Desert for couples with more time.

Itinerary

Day 1

A private transfer from Ezeiza (EZE) or Aeroparque (AEP) to your hotel. In the evening, a tango show dinner at one of Buenos Aires's premier venues — live orchestra, professional dancers, and traditional Argentine cuisine.

Day 2

A private city tour through La Boca and the Caminito, Recoleta and the cemetery where Eva Perón is buried, San Telmo's cobblestone streets and antiques market, the 9 de Julio Avenue and Obelisk, and Puerto Madero's converted waterfront warehouses. The tour adjusts pace and detours to your interests.

Day 3

A private transfer 120 km northwest to San Antonio de Areco, Argentina's most preserved gaucho town on the Pampas. Check-in at Estancia El Ombú, a historic ranch with grounds stretching along the Areco River. The afternoon is free for horseback riding, carriage rides, or a walk along the river before a traditional asado dinner with local wines.

Day 4

A second morning at the estancia — optional guided nature walk, a visit to the town's silversmith workshops on the main square, or a second horseback ride — before a private transfer back to Buenos Aires for your overnight before the Mendoza flight.

Day 5

A domestic flight to Mendoza (MDZ) and a private transfer to Susana Balbo Winemaker's House & Spa Suites in Luján de Cuyo — a boutique property built around the award-winning winemaker's own production philosophy, with the Andes visible from every terrace. The rest of the afternoon is free for the spa or pool.

Day 6

A private guide takes you through Mendoza's two main production zones: Luján de Cuyo for Malbec from established estates with decades of track record, and Valle de Uco at higher altitude for producers still building their international reputation. Gourmet lunch at one of the Uco Valley wineries, with views of the Tupungato Volcano.

Day 7

A pre-dawn departure for the balloon launch site, where the flight crew confirms conditions before first light. The balloon ascends over the Uco Valley vineyards — rows stretching toward the Andes at 1,000–1,500 meters, with the Cordón del Plata and Volcán Tupungato snowpack visible from above in a way no ground-level viewpoint delivers. Flight duration is approximately one hour, landing in the vineyard zone before the morning heat builds, followed by a champagne breakfast. The afternoon is open: a spa session at the lodge or a countryside bike ride through the Uco Valley's back roads between vineyards.

Day 8

A last morning at the vineyard property before a private transfer to Mendoza Airport (MDZ) for your domestic flight to Buenos Aires and onward international connections.

Southwind from the planning stages to delivery of the trip in Patagonia were faultless and I really love the little reminders sent for each separate stage and really appreciated the added bits around passport checking and border crossing paperwork. The whole team was super friendly, and for our trip with Fernando he was great company and knew where to stop for refreshments and a view! We would strongly recommend southwind, they go the extra mile on service and have a permanent smile. Thank you guys you were faultless.

I had a great experience with Southwind. They organized a tour for us to visit Monte Leon from El Calafate. Fernando & Laura organized the logistics and were very helpful. Martin accompanied us on the tour and doubled up as driver and tour guide, which was beyond our expectations. We saw a lot of wildlife en route, as well as in the park with Martin’s help. I highly recommend Southwind for your Patagonia experience.

Maria and her team looked after us so well. I would recommend them in a flash. It was 20 years since I had been to El Calafate so I didn't know what to expect. It had changed so much! Maria was helpful, honest, well priced and a pleasure to work with. You could not ask for more. We had the best time thanks to Maria and her organisation. Fernando was our driver to a tour and a delight. Punctual, knowledgeable and all round wonderful. Gracias!!

How to Customize This Itinerary

This itinerary is a foundation, not a fixed template — we shape it around what draws you to Argentina in the first place.

  • Add extra nights in Mendoza for a sunrise hot air balloon over the Uco Valley, a private blending session, or a Francis Mallmann dinner at The Vines Resort.

  • Extend to Iguazú Falls for the subtropical rainforest and both sides of the falls.

  • Add Buenos Aires at the end for additional restaurants, a closed-door dinner, or an estancia day trip to a different property.

  • Continue to Patagonia for Perito Moreno Glacier and El Chaltén trekking.

Every adjustment is shaped around what the trip means to you, then re-engineered with the same private logistics as the original route.
