Torres del Paine Full-Day Tour from El Calafate

Location: El Calafate, Argentina — Torres del Paine National Park — Puerto Natales, Chile

Discover Torres del Paine in a single, unforgettable day on this full-day tour connecting El Calafate, Argentina with Puerto Natales, Chile. The day opens with a transfer to the border and, once across, a private guide takes over for a scenic drive through some of Patagonia's most photographed landscapes, entering the park through the Laguna Amarga gate.

Route

One-way: El Calafate → Torres del Paine → Puerto Natales

Distance

≈ 340 km / 210 miles

Duration

10 to 12 hrs (full day)

Border crossing

Cancha Carrera (Argentina) – Cerro Castillo (Chile)

Park entrance

Laguna Amarga gate

Difficulty

Easy (scenic drive with short walks to each viewpoint)

Leaving El Calafate early in the morning, the transfer crosses the open Argentine steppe to the Cancha Carrera–Cerro Castillo border post, where formalities are quick and straightforward. On the Chilean side, your private guide is waiting to take over for the rest of the day, heading toward Torres del Paine's eastern entrance at Laguna Amarga.

Once inside the park, the tour stops first at Mirador Lago Sarmiento, where the deep blue waters of the park's largest lake — fed by rain rather than glacial melt — mirror the snow-capped Almirante Nieto. From there, a quieter back road threads through Cañadón Macho, a wind-carved canyon of open steppe grazed by guanacos, leading toward Laguna Azul, one of the park's least-visited and most photogenic corners: its crystalline waters, framed by a small island of native forest, reflect the northern face of the Paine massif in a view first documented by nineteenth-century explorers.

In the afternoon, the route continues to the park's central sector for Cascada Paine and Salto Grande, a thundering waterfall where the Río Paine plunges between Lago Nordenskjöld and Lago Pehoé, paired with Mirador Cuernos — the closest, most dramatic view of the Horns of Paine rising directly above the turquoise water.

Combining a scenic international crossing with some of Torres del Paine's most iconic — and least crowded — viewpoints, this full-day tour is the most complete way to experience the park from El Calafate, closing with the afternoon drive south to Puerto Natales — expertly guided from the Chilean border to the very last stop.
